Identity Verification
Cirtru verifies the identity of renters and listing owners to build trust and keep our community safe. We partner with Stripe, a globally trusted identity verification platform, to make the process secure, quick, and reliable.
How Does Identity Verification Work?
Cirtru uses Stripe Identity to confirm who you are using advanced verification technology trusted by companies like Amazon, Google, and Zoom.
Here’s how the process works:
- Document Check: Stripe captures and analyzes the front and back of your government-issued photo ID to confirm its authenticity.
- Face Match: Stripe takes a live photo of your face and uses biometric technology to match it with your ID photo, like a digital bank teller but far more accurate. Learn more about biometrics.
- Data Validation: Your name, date of birth, and government ID number are checked against global databases to verify that the information is valid.
- Consent-Based Use: Stripe will always request your permission before using biometric data and will handle it according to their Privacy Policy.

Best Practices for a Successful Verification
To ensure your identity verification goes smoothly, follow these tips:
- Use a valid, unexpired government-issued ID - physical, not a photocopy or screenshot.
- Prefer a mobile device - phone cameras usually capture higher-quality images than webcams.
-
Ensure clear, glare-free photos:
- Avoid dark rooms or bright backlighting.
- Hold your device steady and let the camera focus.
- Lay your ID flat and make sure it's fully visible.
- Remove masks, sunglasses, or anything that covers your face.
- Choose a spot with soft, natural lighting, avoid shadows and reflections.
Who Has Access to My Verification Data?
Both Cirtru and Stripe have access to the information you submit during verification. Stripe securely stores your data and follows strict access controls and encryption protocols, comparable to those used in financial compliance systems.
Cirtru does not share your data with third parties. Your information is used only for verification and account security.
